2023 Summer Weekend at Camp Onas
June 9, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - June 11, 2023 @ 3:00 pm
Connect, create and play - Camp Onas Summer Getaway
June 9-11, 2023Calling people of all ages and walks of life to share fun and fellowship at the ECRS Camping Weekend!
We’re excited this year to return to Camp Onas after a three-year Covid break. We know that the weekend will have a special blend of excitement and contentment and joy.
Newcomers and ECRS veterans alike will enjoy the chance to focus on a theme in daytime classes – whether dancing, singing, informal dramatics, crafts, or games. Then at Evening Program, everyone comes together as a community to dance, sing, play games, and socialize over snacks. ECRS welcomes folks of every race, color, religion, national origin, age, sexual orientation, or gender identity to build community through music, dance, art, and play.

2023 Class descriptions
No Experience Necessary for Any Class
Paint Like Pollock (Kay Gering)
Jackson Pollack made a huge splash in the art world when he displayed his style of “Action Painting”. Using a technique of dripping, throwing, and smearing paint as he moved around his canvas he created vibrant kinetic compositions. We’ll have 2 large canvasses (one black, one white) laying on the ground to explore this method in a collaborative art experience. It’s messy but lots of fun! Plastic trash bags to cover clothing, gloves, and shoe caps will be available. It’s best to dress for a mess with this activity.
Active Games for Teens and Adults (Trevor "The Games Man")
Although we won’t be running ALL the time, this is an energetic, spirited class. It takes teamwork to catch the runner in Line Cross, and full attention for one player to hold everyone at bay in Smaug’s Jewels. Elbow Tag is a 1-on-1 chase, and Rock/Paper/Scissors Tag a moment of sheer chaos for all! Dho Dho Dho requires breath control (really!), and May I Borrow Your Cat needs stealth and silliness. For breathers, a few brain games will get that grey matter active while our bodies rest. All in all, it’s sheer excitement, a total blast, loads of FUN, and everybody wins!
Joy of Movement/Moving to Heal (Judi Powers)
If yoga, healing movement, martial arts, and expressive dance arts had a baby it would be called NIA. Come explore the joy of movement, dancing in sensation to NIA routines and moves. We will move and dance to an eclectic mix of music — learning the body’s way and your body’s way so you are renewed and restored. Anyone can attend. Typically done barefoot, bring your yoga mat too — fun for everyone!
International Dance (Sharon Underberg-Davis)
Learn and do circle and line dances from the US and a number of other countries, varying in tempo, style, and music. All levels of experience are welcome!
Spring Craft (Kay Gering)
Mini Small Scenes (Glenn Lebwohl-Steiner)
Class size is limited to 16 people. Please register in advance. Ages 15+.
Party Games for All Ages (Trevor "The Games Man")
In this fast-paced class, we’ll play a wide variety of everybody-wins party games for your living room or around the dining table. They require little or no equipment, require no special skills, are non-strenuous, yet are a rousing good time. Ice breakers, circle games, table games, line games, thinking games, partner games, large group games, small group games, noisy games, silent games, creative games, storytelling games, and probably even a few weird and unusual games, too. From Standing Ovation to Sit Down and Be Quiet!, from Shouting Proverbs to Picture Charades, from Mirror Me to How to Start an Argument… everybody wins, everybody plays, and everybody has FUN!
Informal Dramatics (Arnie Zacharias)
Have you ever wanted to be a king, a witch, or an Olympic star? Here’s your chance. Through a series of dramatic games, exercises, and skits, we will perform for the group with an emphasis on pure fun… No previous experience is needed.
Children’s Program
Ages 5-11
ECRS offers a completely integrated program for children ages 5-11 during the morning class period on both Saturday and Sunday. Many activities mirror the sense of cooperative play that ECRS is built on. Children attending the program may learn new games, create new crafts, sing silly songs, or even get the chance to share activities they have fun doing at home. Note: Children are expected to stay for the entire program, and are the responsibility of their guardians at all other times. This program will be offered only if at least three children ages 5-11 are registered by May 26.
Preschool
If you have youngsters ages 2–4, we will provide supervised play for them during the morning class period on both Saturday and Sunday. Parents or guardians are welcome, but not required, to join us. This program will be offered only if at least three children ages 2-4 are registered by May 26.
